The Nesting Box Company started in a small Vermont workshop with a simple idea: birds deserve better homes than the flimsy, mass-produced boxes that barely last a season. Founded by Judy and Paul Risteff of Proctor, Vermont, we craft each nesting box based on guidance from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Audubon, and years of field observations. Details like entrance hole size, floor dimensions, ventilation, and drainage are carefully measured, never guessed.
We use only sustainably harvested Vermont pine from a local sawmill. Naturally rot-resistant and free of the chemicals in pressure-treated lumber, it weathers to a beautiful silver-gray that blends into the landscape. No particle board, no plastic, no shortcuts. Every box has an easy-open clean-out door for seasonal maintenance, plus proper drainage, ventilation slots, and interior ladders to help fledglings climb out safely.
